5/3/2017 League Bedworth 4 v 3 WWFC

Bedworth United U16 4 - 3 Wellesbourne Wanderers U16
Another Sunday and another defeat, this time against rivals near the foot of the table. In a proper stadium on an excellent 3G pitch WW arrived with only 11 players again, James the latest casualty with the flu. WW began brightly with Joe M having an early shot saved but they fell behind to Bedworth’s first attack, a good move down the left well finished. Will K shot wide from range and Bedworth Mid way through the half WW were desperately unlucky not to be level, Will K’s powerful header from Richard’s corner crashing back off the bar. Will B was next to go close, then Will K had a shot saved after another good WW move. Joe Wil had a header saved before a rather soft goal saw Bedworth double their lead. Last action of the half a good save by the Bedworth keeper to deny Richard. HT 2-0, WW playing the better football but with nothing to show for it.
WW got straight back in to the game on 43 minutes with a powerful free kick from Will K for 2-1. Will K then had another free kick fly just over and an effort from Will B forced a save. Tom made a great run down the right but shot just wide before Bedworth restored their two goal advantage on 53 minutes. WW were building well down the left though through Miles and Woody, and the game sprang into frantic life in the last ten minutes. WW, with Sascha now pushed in to midfield, began to ask some serious questions and it was Sascha who finished the best move of the game for 3-2, following some delightful interplay between Woody and Richard. A minute later Will K struck his second after a bit of hesitancy in the Bedworth defence and WW were level. WW looked the likely winners at this stage, with Bedworth resorting to one or two wild challenges. On 74 minutes Sascha’s header from another Richard corner was cleared off the line, and Joe M fired an effort over the bar, injuring his leg in the process. Four minutes from time Bedworth won the game in rather bizarre circumstances – a home corner came to nothing with the ball in Joe’s hands, but they had taken it before the referee was ready so he gave then another go. Predictably the second one was headed in to the net to gift the home side three points when frankly they would have been fortunate with one. FT 4-3. Clear MOM was Sascha, excellent performance. Runner-up Miles who also had a fine game but no WW player deserved to be on the losing side today.
