11/9/2016 League Warwick 0 v 0 WWFC

Here we go again for what will be the boys final season together – cant believe they are now all 15 and young men! AS usual the first day of the season was a beautiful sunny day and old adversaries Warwick were the opposition, withe mad Gary their manager sure to liven things up. There have always been good games between the 2 sides, usually very high scoring.
A great pitch awaited the team and it was quite amusing thinking I wasn’t one of the numpty coaches who parked their posh cars behind the goals – dents , windscreens and smashed lights!
Despite a larger squad only 11 were available for the match – Daniel nearly fainted when he thought he had to do 80 minutes!! A big welcome to Sacha who took the centre back position with Miles injured.
The game started at quite a pace, backwards and forwards with WWFC holding the upper hand with James, Daniel and Richard combining well for a chance and Daniel, Oli and Cory for another chance. Warwick started to come into more but the boys looked a solid unit at the back, working well together. Tom covering wit his speed a couple of times. Daniel was doing well in his central position, feeding James for anther chance and Warwick had certainly done their homework on James. Joe came into his own after 22 minutes with an excellent save. The remainder of the half was very even with a couple of half chances for both sides. Halftime and 0-0 and a very even game.
Warwick started the second half strongly with WWFC unable to clear the ball and restricted to long range shots from James and Richard. Sacha was having a cracking debut, very controlled in the centre. There seemed to be plenty of room in the midfield which Oli and Will were trying o exploit. On 56 minutes, Daniel held the ball up well and wriggled past his much larger opponent, laying he ball to Cory who mishit his shot. On 67 James went on a mazy run (haven’t said that 0r years) past 5 defenders but foiled by the goalie .The best chance came n 68 minutes when Woody found himself in the area for a great shit which bounced off the goalie, onto him and off the goalie again – a game saving block by the Warwick goalie. You felt a goal wasn’t going to come but Warwick came close a couple of times in the last 10 minutes, on one occasion Tom covering really well. Certainly the last 10 mins were hard work for the boys, very hot and no subs compared to 4 or 5 from Warwick. Bt they kept going and made it to the end for a 0-0 draw. One of the best games I have seen, 2 very evenly matched sides and played in a good spirit. A good work out for the boys who will be feeling it on Monday morning. The missing members of the squad are going to have to work hard to get in the team after this superb start.
The first MOM was very one sided – Tom and Will third, Daniel second and the winner by a country mile was debutant Sacha – a great performance and a good signing (nice Dad as well as he voted for my boy!)
No match next week which is a shame but a great first performance in what is going to be a tough league. Well done boys!
