Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 11s Fixture Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
9/10/2016 League Warwick Juniors Falcons 1 v 4 Wellesbourne Wanderers

Thanks ever so much to Cara for the following match report - what a natural reporter :-)

It was an even match for the first half of the game, with some good shots from both Wellesbourne and Warwick.
Dan and Matt both had opportunities to score, but the Warwick goalkeeper held her own and managed to stop the ball from hitting the back of the net.
Warwick opened the scoring after Wellesbourne showed some indecisiveness, but Dan soon managed to turn their luck around with 2 good goals, making it 2-1 to Wellesbourne at half time.
Wellesbourne came out fighting in the second half, with Matt and Sam both challenging the Goalkeeper, before good defending from Warwick stopped Dan from scoring, prolonging his wait for his hat-trick, which he managed to get after some great play from Wellesbourne. Matt showed strength throughout the game and his hard work was rewarded when he secured victory for Wellesbourne with the last goal of the game. Final score 4-1.
Today's captain was George, who showed great leadership on the pitch, and was unfortunate not to score in the last few minutes of the game.
Man of the match was awarded to Dan for his strong tackling, good defending, great link-up play, and most importantly for the team, his hat-trick.
Well done Wellesbourne
Coaches verdict - we appeared to struggle to get into a rhythm in the first half and forgot how to use our speed and passing into spaces as well as forgetting how to tackle. The opposition took a well deserved lead and whilst we had our chances we struggled to get them into the net - it was a relief to go in 2-1 up at half time. The second half however, was a different proposition and the boys started to play their game and did very well. We need to start ALL games with a high tempo and look at any opposition as if they are 2 leagues above us from the start
The reality is that on another day some of our shots would have gone in and you get days like this - what was great to see was the boys character and how they handled going down a goal - it would have been easy for heads to drop but they didn't - well done boys and well done "Captain George" for enthusing the team.
