Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 11s Fixture Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
2/10/2016 League Warwick Juniors 0 v 8 Wellesbourne Wanderers

Todays captain at the help of the ship was William - we are actively looking for future captains in the squad and it's a very tough task as all the boys have great qualities.

Thanks to Alison for the following match report;

After yesterdays monsoon conditions the sun shone down on our match this afternoon. Wellesbourne were away to Warwick Juniors and Will lead out the team as captain.

Warwick had good early pressure but Wellesbourne defended strongly. One of the first Wellesbourne attacks lead to a long range wonder goal from George to open the scoring. This was quickly followed up by a short range goal from Oakley, a scrambled goal from Dan, which he followed up moments later with a second after a cross from Matt. 4-0 before we had chance to take breath! Strong defending from Stuart and Chris and confident goal keeping from James meant the pressure remained on the Warwick goal. Warwick continued to work hard and the game became much more end to end. James then came out of goal and immediately pressed hard looking for a goal. Hector, Matt and Will all had excellent shots but it was Sam who managed to make it 5-0 by half time after a great through ball left him 1 on 1 with the keeper, which he confidently buried in the back of the net.
Early in the second half Dan completed his hat trick. Hector continued to close down players and was unlucky not to score after a first time shot. Will continued to defend and attack well demonstrating why he was given the captains arm band. James then completed a great solo run to get his name on the score sheet with Sam getting his second after quick thinking led him to intercept a goal kick. Warwick Juniors continued to play good football forcing Oakley, Stuart and Chris to work hard in defence and Dan to make several saves to keep the Wellesbourne clean sheet. Final score 8-0. Well done to all the players for their tireless running, confident tackling and accurate passing in what was a very enjoyable match to watch.
George was named man of the match for his amazing goal, excellent passes and endless running!

Coaches verdict - unlike last season the boys appear to be getting straight into games from the opening whistle and for the third match in a row we have pressed very quickly and found the net. It was great to see 5 different players on the scoresheet today and for the season so far there has been 8 different goalscorers. What is really good to see is more use of the extra space and more passing & moving.

And above all speed & intensity in abundance

Well done boys - you were great and you have a superb team spirit
