Wellesbourne Wanderers FC Under 11s Fixture Report

Date Type Team S v S Team
18/9/2016 League Hillmorton Juniors 3 v 2 Wellesbourne Wanderers

This weeks captain was George for his determination in the previous matches and attentiveness in training. Well done George.

Thanks Kath for doing the following report;

Wellesbourne Wanderers v Hillmorton

Final Score 3-2 to Hillmorton

Wellesbourne, captained by George, started brilliantly with 2 goals in the first 10 mins - both scored by Sam, set up by Matt. Hillmorton had a some early attempts on goal, but were stopped by good saves from Reace, one in particular where he managed to reach and deflect the ball using his fingertips !!

30 minutes in and a lost ball stopped play - great shot into the bushes of a neighbouring garden !!

A goal by Hillmorton took us to 2-1 to Wellesbourne at half time.

The second half started well with some good defending by Will, Chris & Stuart but Hillmorton managed to score again bringing it to 2 all.

The third goal just managed to sneak past our boys !!

The latter part of the second half saw Wellesbourne up the ante and put real pressure on Hillmorton with several good attempts on goal, including a great double header from Matt & Toby that just tipped over the crossbar. The boys really showed what they could do.

A great effort by Wellesbourne, despite a couple of the players not being 100% well.
Coaches verdict;
Well, having heard that the opposition had won their first 2 games 6-0 and 9-0 and we possibly only had 8 players due to illness I was feeling a tad nervous. Having asked the boys if they still wanted to play against a very good team with only 8 players they were all keen to play which shows great spirit. Thers's a saying - "when the chips are down come out all guns blazing" and the boys did just that and within a short space of time were 2-0 up - what was funny was that I'd asked them to play defensively for the first 10 minutes (what do I know eh). Anyway, both goals were straight out of this season's training book and were an absolute pleasure to see - well done to all the boys as it's not just who gets the goals or sets them up, it is a team affair and all the boys played like a pro team.

I could not be more proud of each and every one of the lads - and to be honest, whilst the scoreline says you lost the game, you were actually very unlucky not to win after all the attacks that we had. I think I counted 5 corners in a row at the end. The Hillmorton coach said we had them worried. Well done to Dan for being awarded the MotM.
Keep up the "speed and intensity" and apply what we learn in training and you can do anything :-)
