11/9/2016 League Khalsa Juniors 2 v 4 Wellesbourne Wanderers

Well here we are again - another season and we were playing away to Khalsa. Oliver had learnt the captains armband from 2 Friday night training sessions in a row of listening and applying what was asked of him.

Thanks ever so much to Matt's mum for doing the following report on the game;

Wellesbourne Wanderers u11 kicked off the new season away at Khalsa. Debutant Ollie led out the team as captain and the boys pressed hard from the first whistle. Early pressure resulted in Wellesbourne going 1 up after Matt's tap in from a cross by George. George quickly made it 2, with a stunning long range shot. The team were pressing hard with some great attempts from Hector, Dan and James. Matt was fouled in the penalty area after a surging run down the wing, converting the resulting penalty to go 3 - 0 up. Khalsa then regrouped but strong defending from Chris, Ollie and Riley along with a stunning save from Reace kept it at 3-0 until the last kick of the first half when Khalsa's hard work finally paid off. Half-time score 3-1.
Khalsa came out of the blocks much quicker in the second half and very soon the score was 3-2. Wellesbourne kept their heads and strong tackling from Stuart and Chris along with some impressive midfield play from Sam and Dan soon meant that the pressure was back on the Khalsa goal. James had a superb strike which went just wide. Matt was taken down for a second penalty which he cooly took to complete his hat trick. A heavy tackle on James led to a second yellow card for a Khalsa player meaning they had to end the game with 8 players. The team continued to work hard until the final whistle winning 4-2.
All the boys played high energy attacking football, which was a joy to watch.
Chris was named 'man of the match' for his energy and determination.

Coaches verdict - it was great to see the lads take what I've asked them to focus on in training into the game - there was speed and intensity in abundance and as a result the boys earn't more possession which led to our goals. We allowed the opposition to nearly get back into the game when we stood off a few tackles (a rarity in this game) which needs to be a wake up call for all our games. Having said that, it was a great all round performance from all the players - really well done lads.......
