I know lots of you are wondering what is happening at the Wellesbourne Sports and Community Centre.
At present we are negotiating the price for the build of the annexe or extension containing changing rooms and other facilities along with the refurbishment of the ground floor of the current building. The project has to be phased given the costs of the work. It is very difficult to work with an old building and it requires much work to be done on it to make it habitable.
We have received a quotation for the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) and again we have broken this down into two sections: the football pitches and the tennis courts.
A fundraiser has been working for us and we should hear the outcome of two of the bids we have made for funds this month. If we gain those we can move ahead with the first phases. If not, we will have to consider what work we do first.
The “Buy a brick scheme” has raised over £1000 to date and I hope more of you will join in this.
The Parish Council does not have a bottomless purse to do this project: we have some money from Section 106 from the Redhill development but the Parish received no money from the Sainsbury development or the 99 houses build beyond it. (Although Stratford District Council received £5000 towards their sports centre.) Neither will we receive any money from the development off Dovehouse Drive.
We need another £250,000 to complete the first two phases, the development of the building and the MUGA.
